LWI Celebrates 14th Fashion Show and Luncheon

Carmen María Montiel is an award-winning journalist based in Houston, Texas. A former news anchor for Telemundo-Houston and producer for Ritmo Latino, she also has experience in radio both the U.S. and Venezuela. A Houston resident, Carmen María Montiel has participated in various charitable activities. She worked with the Latin Women’s Initiative (LWI) from 2006 to 2008 and served as a member of the advisory committee, election committee, and chair of the bazaar committee for the Luncheon-Fashion show.

In May 2016, the LWI celebrated its 14th annual fashion show and luncheon with a sellout crowd of more than 700 attendees. The event was held at the Hilton Americas-Houston ballroom and featured 30 curated vendors who displayed their high fashion wares in the hotel’s foyer.
Michael Cordúa and former Miss Universe Barbara Palacios emceed the event. The organization raised $250,000, which will be divided between several charities. The program included remarks from Cyndy Garza Roberts, the LWI’s current president, as well as luncheon chairs Sally Lechin and Marianelly Avendano Noble and honorary chair Mary Tere Perusquia.
